Vocalist (from the Latin words vox – “voice” and vocalis – “sounding”) – a musical profession, a role in a musical collective, involves the performance of various vocal parts.
Now, the term vocalist almost coincides with the term singer, but in modern pop music it is interpreted somewhat more broadly, in particular, implying the possibility of recitation, recitative, etc.
Singer – the one who sings, is engaged in singing. Artist of vocal music: songs, romances, arias, choirs, singles, etc. A musician who performs music on a musical instrument, which is his own voice. The singer is the most common type of vocalist.
In classical music and in opera, the voice is interpreted exclusively as a musical instrument. Composers write music for this instrument, taking into account the skill and characteristics of the singer’s voice.

Music at all times, since its inception, has been used as a means of influencing people’s consciousness. With its help, different goals were achieved. Knowledgeable people wisely approached the musical design of their events.
For example, the Christian church banned music in its temples, until the reign of Pope Gregory I, who allowed, and even wrote music for prayers. However, this music was not supposed to be emotional, without accompaniment, and the male choir sang songs in unison. This style is called Gregorian singing.
And to this day, this singing tunes in a divine way, evoking sublime, angelic feelings among the parishioners and clergy within the walls of churches and monasteries. But the combination of the professions of a musician and a doctor is a rare phenomenon. And yet there are such unique ones. Russian composer Alexander Porfirievich Borodin was a talented scientist and chemist. He graduated with honors from the Medical and Surgical Academy, defended his dissertation for a doctor of medicine, was among such prominent figures of Russian science as A.M. Butlerov, D.I. Mendeleev, I.I. Sechenov, S.P. Botkin. But the work of the learned physician did not prevent him from composing musical works: romances, symphony concerts, and creating his main brainchild – the opera Prince Igor. For 17 years he worked on opera. Music inspires her, awakens patriotic feelings. French composer Hector Berlioz touched medicine. Born in the family of a doctor, at the insistence of his father he studied medicine, but also was fond of poetry, art, music.
He entered the Paris Conservatory. Berlioz created several symphonies, the vocal and dramatic trilogy “The Childhood of Christ”. His opera Beatrice and Benedict is especially famous for Shakespeare’s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. The bright, cheerful music of the opera creates a wonderful mood, ignites with fun and humor.
